Naar- Phu, Kang-La, Mesokanto-La via Tilicho Lake is challenging but unique trek in Nepal. You will get an unbelievable experience with an extra ordinary and untouched area of Nepal with Griffon Travel Pvt Ltd.

Naar-Phu, Kang-La, Mesokanto-La via Tilicho Lake Trek is located in the north of inaccessible curve of the Annapurna’s. The Naar-Phu valley opened for foreigner since 2003. This exotic geographic area offers you medieval Tibetan Buddhist Culture in a completely fresh and almost an untouched wilderness. The mountains, mid Hills scenery, wilderness rivers and picturesque landscapes are extraordinary during the trek. After challenging over Kang-La pass, we will rejoin the famous Annapurna circuit trail to the most beautiful and legendary village at Manang.

Then it continues to the highest lake Tilicho (4,919 m) an extraordinary surrounding topography of the trek. This makes your trip more remarkable for those who are keen for a genuine remote and usually idyllic secret. At the beginning, this trek follows the most famous trails of Annapurna circuit until to Koto village just before Chame. From Koto leaving main trail, it turns to the north to Naar-Phu valley with hidden track and deep George.

After visiting unique Naar-Phu valley, the trail crossing through challenging high pass Kang-La (5,360 m). We reach Manang, a superb lovely village and continue towards Tilicho lake via Mesokanto-La (5,100 m). Both high passes and treks offer you glorious views of the Himlung Himal, Of course massif Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range with beautiful Lake Tilicho before getting into the Kaligandaki valley at Jomsom. This is one of the best trek for those who are very keen to explore off-the-beaten tracks and hidden mountain valleys.

We highly recommend this trek for those who want to be away from commercial route and out of crowding region for seeking adventure travellers. After your successful completion, this trek ends a lovely lakeside city in Pokhara.

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel

Day 04: Dharapani – Koto (2,670 m)

Day 16: Meso-Kanto –La pass (5,099 m) and descent –Yak Kharka (4,240m)

Itinerary
  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel,

    On your arrival at Kathmandu International airport, our representative from Griffon Travel Pvt Ltd will pick you up and transfer you to the Hotel. After arriving at the hotel, you can rest and spend the remaining day as per your preference. In the evening, the tourist hub of Thamel is a good place to grab your first meal, with a variety of restaurants to choose from offering both Western and local Nepali dishes.

  • Day 02: Half day Kathmandu sightseeing tour and trek preparation,

    Today after breakfast, you will leave for a half day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu valley. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square,  the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath), or the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and Buddhist shrine (Boudhanath) which is one of the largest stupas in the world. In the afternoon, our represetative will meet you at your hotel where there will be short trip briefing and introduction with your trekking guide. After short briefing, you will have some time to do last minute arrangements before trekking. For example changing money, ATM, market etc. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Griffon Travel. For dinner, you will be served excellent Nepalese cuisine.

  • Day 03: Drive From Kathmandu– Dharapani via Besisahar,

    After breakfast, early in the morning we will drive to Dharapani via Beshisahar and Chamje. Drive on Nepal’s busy highway to reach Besisahar, a large town headquarters of Lamjung district. After Besisahar we will be taking an off-road vehicle for the rough and interesting ride following Marsyangdi River past Khudi, Bulbule, and Nagdi villages to reach Syange. From here, we will leave the river behind and the drive will climb up on the steep road to reach Jagat and Chamje village. We will continue on a scenic road high above the river to Dharapani, a nice little village is located on the junction between the Annapurna circuit and the Manaslu route.

  • Day 04: Dharapani – Koto (2,670 m),

    The trail climbs from Dharapani, where the terrain beginning to shift from the lush valleys into rough, rugged alpine. Branching off of the Marsyangdi River we enter into an enchanting forest of pine and oak, bursting with the vibrant colours of rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower. From here there are glorious views of Manaslu range, Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II. Our stop for the night is the village of Koto and the gateway into the Nar Phu valley.

  • Day 05: Koto –Dharamsala (3,230 m),

    We leave the classic Annapurna round path to enter the hidden valley, walking upstream the Phu Khola for five days in a wild gorge. It’s a pleasant and gradually way up through nice conifer forest. As we emerge out of a narrow canyon, the trail actually passes under a wide waterfall just before the Dharamsala, from which point the woods become thinner and the vistas wider. A stunning start for the Naar Phu trek! We camp at the Dharamsala, a lovely campsite.

  • Day 06: Dharamsala – Kyang (3,820 m),

    The trail climbs up steeply along a small, scenic river to bring us to high pastures on a plateau before reaching Meta, a non-permanent winter settlement for Naar people. From there Mt.Kang Guru (6990m) is very close. We can enjoy the view of Pisang peak and Lamjung Himal. An hour past Meta, Junam is the second semi-permanent settlement, once where “khampas” from Tibet sometimes sheltered. Above the kharka to the right looms a massive glacier, which falls jaggedly down to the high pastures above us. The next semi-permanent settlement is Chako, formerly a Khampa settlement, where grass lies tied in bunches to dry on all the rooftops and prayer flags flutter in the breeze. Many more ups and downs takes us to the campsite at Kyang, the extensive winter settlement of Phu, on a plateau high above the river.

  • Day 07: Kyang – Phu village (4,082 m),

    After breakfast, we start our trek towards Phu village. We walk towards Phu River following upstream for some time and then descending back to river again. We climb to reach a gorge valley, walking along the gorge for some time and up into a wide glacial valley with pasture lands ending at Phu village where you will feel highly Tibetan influence culture, traditions and religion.

  • Day 08: Acclimatization day in Phu village or trip to Himlung Base Camp,

    It is the day to acclimatize but not for the complete day rest. To keep fit and acclimatized with the altitude, we explore the Phu valley with its intact cultural setting; natural diversity and religious practices etc. There are three main ethnic communities like Lama, Gurung and Ghale living in harmony. We closely see the way they have been living and doing their agricultural work together. We can visit the Tashi Lakhang Monastery. The monastery is said to have been built by the Karmapa Rinpoche and one of the 108 world’s old Monastery. We can get good view of Himlung Himal from here.

  • Day 09: Phu – Naar village (4,110 m),

    After breakfast, we descend down to Mahendra Pul passing many streams and crossing over the suspension bridges. It takes about 4 hours from Phu village to Mahendra Pul, 80m long over the gorge of Lapche River. We can see many Buddhist Stupas here. It takes about 2 hours to reach to Naar village from Mahendra Pul.

  • Day 10: Naar –Kang – La Phedi (4,530 m),

    Today is the easy day trekking. In the morning, we spend sometime exploring Naar Village. After breakfast , we start our trek towards Kang-la Phedi. While walking up to Kang-La Phedi, We can get some of the amazing and spectacular views. The trail leads through the grazing field with a small stream on the left. The mountains are more visible on the both sides of the stream. On the left, you have the breathtaking view of Pisang peak and it is expanded somewhere up.

  • Day 11: Phedi – Kang – La pass (5,360 m) and descent to Ngawal (3,660m),

    Early morning start today with a stunning view of Pisang Peak and Chulu Far East. This  walk leads crossing a stream on a long bridge and then it climbs slowly up to the top of the ridge to Kang-la pass at 5,360 meters, so far the highest point before Thorang-la. From the top of Kang-la pass we get the overwhelming view of the scenic landscapes, Chulu Peaks, Lamjung Himal and number of peaks on massif Annapurna range. After having an amazing scenery,  we walk downhill through Julu village and then to stop overnight at Ngawal village.

  • Day 12: Ngawal–Manang (3,540m), we will join the famous Annapurna Circuit trail,

    After breakfast, we follow the Annapurna Circuit trail. It’s an easy day to Manang with the magnificent views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Chulu East and Pisang Peak at the background. We descend from Ngawal to Mungi and drop down to the main trail just before Braga, a picturesque village dominated by a large ancient Gompa. Passing carved mani walls  we arrive at the village of Manang.

  • Day 13: Leisurely day in Manang and prepare for next achievement to Tilicho Lake,

    Today is the scheduled acclimatization or rest day. We spend a rest day here to re-energize our body. We can explore beautiful surroundings, visit Buddhist monasteries,  excursion to the glacial lake Gangapurna or take a day hike to Ice Lake.

  • Day 14: Manang –Tilicho Phedi (4,150m),

    After breakfast, we start our journey to Tilicho Phedi. An ambitious day adventure towards Tilicho Lake . The trail heads through the river bank of Marsyangdi by passing through a couple of settlements including khangsar and Shree Kharka village, we continue uphill to Tilicho Base Camp. Walking on the path with rubbles and through landslide area might be tiresome however you will be rewarded with beautiful sunset views over the mountains.

  • Day 15: Tilicho Phedi –Tilicho Lake (4,919 m) to Meso Kanto- La pass (5,099 m),

    After the initial tough ascent, our trail traverses onto a moraine and then cuts along the side of the mountain. However, the spectacular views of Tilicho peak, Nilgiri, Khangsar and Muktinath peaks are always close by to cheer us up. Upon reaching Tilicho Lake at 4,919m, one of the highest lakes in the world, we get to admire its tranquil beauty. Sometimes reflections of the surrounding peaks are seen on its turquoise waters, at othertimes the lake remains frozen. After enjoying with lake view then continue climb to Meso kanto-La Pass at 5,100m known as Tilicho Pass. The pass on a uphill path paved with rock and covered with snow you shall have one of the most beautiful sceneries during the trek. Look deep into the Tibet seen far from the pass and also have the view of mountains overlooking the vast landscape and spectacular rock formations.

  • Day 16: Meso-Kanto –La pass (5,099 m) and descent –Yak Kharka (4,240m),

    After breakfast, we descent to the northern direction and then turns down to the valley before a huge and marvelous rock formation of a flat terrain. From this place we shall gradually descent to the Yak Kharka, the seasonal grassland for grazing the Yaks.

  • Day 17: From Yak Kharka Descent to Jomsom (2,720m),

    After breakfast, we trek down the canyon all morning. Now you have Noticed the change in climatic zone and gradually notice the change in vegetation from barren landscape to scrub junipers to large trees as we descend. We get into civilization after many days of trek as we reach Thinigaon around noon where we will have lunch in one of the teahouse. We get to Jomsom in about an hour’s walk from Thinigaon.

  • Day 18: Spare day incase of bad weather for passes or flight,

    We might need this extra day due to the weather conditions or any cases. However, if the trip goes smoothly, this day will not be required. We will spend this spare day in pokhara instead.

  • Day 19: Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara (820m), discover around and relax,

    Early breakfast and transfer to Jomsom airport for 25 minutes sweeping short flight to Pokhara. During airborne you will get spectacular views of Mt.Dhaulagiri, Nilgiris and Annapurna range with rolling hills dotted with farm villages. On reaching Pokhara airport transfer to respective hotels by the serene lake Phewa. Afternoon free for individual activities or just relax and enjoy the views of the Annapurna Himalaya.

    Flight Time: 25 minutes

  • Day 20: Pokhara – Kathmandu by road or flight on request,

    After Breakfast, transfer to airport and fly back to Kathmandu or we can also drive back. After reaching Kathmandu, we have the rest of the day free to rest or do some souvenir shopping. In the evening, we will take you for a farewell dinner. While having dinner, we will also discuss about your trip and take feedback.

  • Day 21: Final Departure,

    In the morning after breakfast, we will take you back to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your scheduled flight to your next destination.It's good to be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure.

TAAN Pokhara Chapter Explored New Trail
A team of Trekking Agencies'' Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Association Pokhara has explored a new trekking trail that starts from Kushma of Parbat and ends at Baskharka of Myagdi district.

A 17-member team led by Narayan Sapkota, former president of TAAN Pokhara, started the exploration with a drive to Kushma from Pokhara. From Kushma, the walk started toward Banau (2150 meters) through Ghumti, Bagaicha, Bhatebari, Dhakdhake and Sidhali
